R Y O I N D E P T H
A word of warning: most of this is based on what I've seen so far in Anode/Cathode and the english dub. Other than his dimension hopping adventures, Ryo appears to be your average teenaged boy. In Anode/Cathode Tamers we see that Ryo's a fan of online chatting and video games. He also seems to be fairly adept at electrical things (his father asks him to take a look at the circuit breaker after the blackout). He also either very trusting or a glutton for punishment as he is the only one who actually listens to Agumon and touches the Digivice. In the Tamers universe he's a skilled card player and has a very upbeat personality. I guess when you're stuck in the digital world by yourself with a Cyberdramon bent on finding his 'ultimate enemy' you better be able to look at the bright side of things. He also seems to be something of a celebrity -- kids know him as "The Legendary Tamer" who dominated the D-1 Card Tournament. His disappearance shortly after only increased his intrigue. When we first meet him, he seems modest enough regarding his real-world fame and quick to offer help when he can. When he becomes Justimon he does tend to get a bit over-dramatic with his introduction (that could just be the dub and my personal preferences though.) He comes across as they guy everyone wants to be/be friends with/wishes their boyfriend is like. Or the guy you hate because he's so seemingly perfect. On the con side, he's a bit brash and seems to have grown an ego upon returning to the real world. (I still love the guy, but I understand why Ruki might want to throttle him -- hell, if he were a real person *I'd* want to throttle him!) He may have been lonely in the Digital World, but he's adjusted and is used to doing things on his own and tends to do the same in the real world. He seems to have a problem with running off on his own. His father/guardian seems more peeved than upset at the fact that he ran off and disappeared, indicating that perhaps this isn't the first time he's done this. Also, after resting at Ruki's house (or a random abandoned home) in "When is a Mon Justimon" Ryo and Cyberdramon run off in the morning without telling anyone. Finally, when the Tamers go to rescue Juri, Ryo disappears shortly after going through the group biomerge (off fighting the ADR's on his own? Taking an ill-timed nap?) In regards to his interaction with the other Tamers he's the object of Hirokazu's worship and to a lesser extent Kenta's. Jenrya and Takato seem to admire him for his skills as a Tamer but don't think of him as the best thing since sliced bread. Ruki on the other hand sees Ryo in a completely opposite manner -- she seemingly hates him, though by the time they learn of the D-Reaper she's no longer running off in the opposite direction to avoid his presence. Although he does show concern for her (in whichever way you want to interpret it) it seems that he also gets a kick out of needling her. |
