Ryo finally gets some decent screen time in Digimon Tamers! He first appears in episode 28, 'Friend or
Foe? Ryo Akiyama The Legendary Tamer' (aka 'Blame it on Ryo') and makes sporadic appearances til the end
of the series. In Tamers Ryo is known as the 'Legendary Tamer' because of his skills at the Digimon Card
game. Apparently he was reigning Champion at the D-1 Card Tournaments until his disappearance. He also
has the distinction as the only person to beat Ruki at the game, thus earning her ire.
Ryo explains that he left to real world because Cyberdramon was too uncontrollable and someone would've gotten hurt had he stayed (which is a drastic change from the inquisitive but seemingly cuddly Monodramon).
